...the early 90’s French hightech barge that is the Renault Safrane, ideally in V6 form. There is something about their styling I really like.

Unfortunately most of them ended up in junkyards years ago due to their rock bottom prices, so its next to impossible to find a Phase 1 car with the V6. I wouldn’t even care if its a manual or automatic, I’d be happy with either of them. Someone go find me one for cheap money!

Yeah, most of them ended in junkyards. French luxury cars don’t hold their value too well, add electrial/electronics problems which plagued Renaults and un-inspriring drivetrains ... Your best bet would be southern France, where older cars survive better.

I’m sure there are a few survivors around, but finding them certainly will take some time.

You can definitly find some, even some surviving Bi-turbo models, but pricing can go wild :

I like the Renault 25 Baccara myself.

That interior is one of my favorites.

I found a very nice 1-owner V6. It’s a mk2 though. http://www.flevomobiel.nl/occasions.aspx?aid=2458279&did=1589

Mk1s can be had for very little money, but they all seem to be 2.2s. are those okay too?

Edit: this mk1 with 2.2 looks like quite a decent car for €650 http://m.autowereld.nl/renault/safrane/2-2-rn-22083772/details.html

Yeah, filtering for V6 Phase 1 cars leaves you with pretty much nothing though, and Biturbo ones are too expensive .

Yeah, there are a few 2.0 and 2.2 Safranes around, but I believe a car like this should have more than 4 cylinders. The Volvo i5 would be perfectly fine, too. But these were only available in the phase 2 as well.

Do you have any pics of it?

Do you want a RHD or a LHD car?

Edit: very late mk1 3.0 V6. €300. Interesting project?

...adds to list of cars that vanished almost as soon as production stopped.

As it happens and in old vanished Renault news, I saw a French registered 21 the other day which some brave tourist had arrived here in.

Ah, interesting! I haven’t seen that one yet! Thanks man!

The Baccara is nice and all, but not a must have. A well equipped V6 for little money would be more than enough at this point.

A Renault dealer (or franchise. Whatever) here in Munich has a late 21 wagon on its lot. First one I’ve seen in ages.

Are Renault 25s and Peugeot 605 SV easier or harder to find?

Hm, I’d be surprised if 25s are easier to find considering they are even older, and probably not more durable. Peugeot 605s probably sold a lot better, yet I can´barely find any of them either. Most of them are just too old and have been extremely cheap for too long to be still available in large numbers. Especially in Germany, most of them went to Eastern Europe or Africa/Middle East.

I have craved this very car for a long, long time. But they’re getting too old. We have all kinds of restrictions in cities, I would not even be able to go to work in this I’m afraid. And my cars are dd.

I tried to get a picture but there were children round and it’s not a good idea to sit in a car taking pics when kids are around. I’ll describe it, 1999 facelift, in grey, slightly moss covered but still driven.

Fortunately its not gotten that far here yet for petrol cars. And considering I’ll most likely be registering it in Germany, by the time I’d get into trouble with it, it would be considered a classic (once 30 years old), at that point environmental zones wouldn’t matter anymore anyway.

Ah yeah, the facelift cars really seem to be so much more common, even though still incredibly rare.
